Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

The only purebred vampire left on the planet and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who killed his parents centuries ago. But when his most trusted fighter is killed -- orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate -- Wrath must put down his dagger and usher the beautiful female into another world. Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of the Brotherhood and blood frighten her. Yet his touch ignites a dawning new hunger one that threatens to consume them both…

2023: eh, on re-read I think this is weaker. Can see how it's so much setup, of the series and world and start of specific storylines. The romance element between Wrath and Elizabeth was so insta-love and had no real foundation. The first time they have sex, she's basically in a trance because of the magic cigar thing??

    2020:
I know so many people love this series, and so it had to make my list for the Love In The Night Readathon!

Overall: I liked it! I want to continue the series!

I listened to the audiobook, and I thought the narrator did a fine job. Occasionally the dialogue fell a little flat, but all the intense scenes (both action and intimate) the narrator created good tension.
Though the dialogue is a bit simple and dated to 1990s/early 2000s, this didn't detract many points from me. Honestly the main bummer I had with this book was the insta-love. And I got past it because at least they were having sex and feeling pulled toward each other because of 'fated mates' (I assume).
In actuality, this book doesn't have an amazing plot or unique premise, it's got a lot of clichés and the characterization is only so-so. While I'm super intrigued with the world and all the elements, the atmosphere wasn't amazing--mostly hinted at instead of explained.
So... why did I tear through it and already request the next book from the library?

Now that I think back on it, I think all of the sex scenes happened before they got married... I mean yes there was sex after they got married but not in any description?

I am intrigued by each of the other males in the brotherhood, but I had a hard time distinguishing who was whom in this book. I have a feeling that each of them has a specific feature that is what is supposed to distinguish them from everybody else, but I haven't associated their thing with their names.

I was maybe most intrigued by the elements in this book that have to do with the Scribe Virgin and the Omega. Wrath was able to pray and/or say a chant and was able to communicate with SV? She interacted with him and had a name and came to his wedding... And then the whole end bit with Darius and him being reincarnated... all of that was super intriguing and I want to find out more!
