Recs if you like Wise Children...

In honor of my Canadian queen Catherine O'Hara tragically passing away today, I wept (literally, I am unwell, y'all), and then felt inspired to make a list of books that I think Moira would like. Please give me ideas, I am thinking books that are/contain the following: dramatic and theatrical, VERBOSE vocabulary paired with profanity, female rage/female empowerment, sly humor, dark and twisty, possible nods to The Industry, excellent accessories required.

Books that exhibit key traits of, or helped develop, the Postmodern literary movement, many of which are experiemental. Not including criticism or theory. Research trigger warnings before reading.

kids are great. however as a person who doesn’t want kids, I have fatigue around how many novels position motherhood as the epicenter of women’s lives. i’m gathering books here about women in their late twenties and older that don’t focus on motherhood or children. I haven’t read all these fyi!! plz share recs; i’m mostly looking for lit fic.

I discovered Angela Carter in Novemver of 2024 and after absolutely falling head over heels for one of her short stories in a Literary Critisism class - Company of Wolves - vowed to read as many of her books as I could in 2025. With college work I only read 3 in 2025, and now we are coming into 2026 and I have compiled several of her books, but have yet to read them! This is my personal quest list to encourage me to. Please leave your Carter favourites, stories and recs in the comments!🖤
