Fake dating and sleeping with the new boss isn’t part of my job description. But an unexpected perk since he’s also my best friend. I moved away from my hometown, found an amazing apartment, and landed my dream job. Little did I know that the new CEO is also my childhood best friend and secret crush. I hear the dread in his voice when he tells me he is being set up on yet another awful date. A ploy orchestrated by his mother who insists he should be married, like, now. As a favor, I went along with his secret plan to relieve him - at least, temporarily. Fake date… which leads to a fake engagement. What could possibly go wrong? Heat makes me sweat as I feel every kiss to the bottom of every nerve. Suddenly the steamy practice kisses to put on a show and the pretend proposal didn’t feel so pretend anymore. At least, not for me. I want this to be real, but does he? All I know is I can’t pretend anymore.

Laina has recently relocated to Seattle for a new job. On her first day, she finds out her old friend, Kyle, is the recently appointed CEO of the company. They reconnect and find that they still enjoy each other's company. Kyle is being pressured to date and marry by his mother. He hatches a plan where he will fake date Laina since they have chemistry anyway. Unfortunately, his mother is opposed to Laina and doesn't hesitate to tell Kyle all about it. Will he stand up to his family when he realizes that he would like the relationship to be more than fake? Will the whole plan backfire and end in disaster?
I loved this book and how Kyle grew throughout the story to make his own decisions and do what he wanted. Laina was a really sweet girl and went along with the plan, likely hoping it would turn into something real, even though she never really expressed that.
