My ex-husband broke my heart asking for an open marriage. Then I found out he had already been sleeping with someone else. So I dumped his arse and moved out, But in the process found myself in the arms of four smoking hot strangers. They pull out all the stops, lavishing me with all of the attention I’d been missing out on, But these guys have a secret.
The writing is surprising. I'm finding myself really engaged and pulled along, devouring this in a way I haven't in a hot minute. There are, however, a few turns of phrase/sentences that have given me pause: comments about romance books being "r*pey" (the main character loves them and there are plenty of ~meta comments about romance tropes throughout the book, but this specific word choice 2x was weird to me). Also one sentence were she thinks about not 'fulfilling her biologic potential' by not having kids... 👀 Also I'm seeing like 1% emotional development here. The guys all knew she was their mate, and have been aiming to woo her since before arriving to town. There is an awful lot of her husband/then ex-husband on page, even intruding into her thoughts and comments. Where she is in the separation process, in the grief and anger process-- this totally makes sense. BUT... I'm not buying her acceptance of a relationship with these new guys. Especially there's so much more that needs covered but I've got only 25% left??? I doubt this will end up feeling very satisfying in the end. I believe each book in the series is new relationships and new people, not a continuation of these people-- I'd honestly have preferred much more development of this quintuple.
