Recs if you like Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy...

in progress

Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.

I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.

Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.

For my favs / read, check out my other lists & shelves.

Open to suggestions for more titles.

Don't shoot the messenger.

from photographs, essays, poems and more: these reads offer the living experiences of lesbians/sapphics of different backgrounds ♡

all lesbians/sapphics are welcome! anything sapphic-centered i find will be added on here! hope you enjoy!

I have yet to see a list that covered lesbian nonfiction so I decided to make one! Suggestions welcome! I may not have read all on this list yet!

Exactly what it says on the tin, books that feature queer nuns (some Christian, some of a more fantastical variety)

books about nuns. kinda niche interest of mine... please comment if you have any recs ❤️ FOR THE RECORD: I am mostly looking for literary fiction and classics (though there are some exceptions on the list)

books with queer, sapphic, lesbian nuns amidst yearning, curiosity, worship, mayhem (and murder? who knows)

Nonfiction books about Lesbian nuns

Nonfiction history books focusing on a specific topic or area but follow a narrative structure

(Auto)Biographies, memoirs, and stories of influential women, both well and lesser known

ask large questions in small spaces! avoids (but not void of) memoirs/biographies, some case studies, and the macro i'm not a historian or an expert by any means but i am salty. a lot of contemporary lists for microhistory reads contain a lot of books that are absolutely not micro. At. All. think mark kurlansky ("milk", "salt", "cod" etc.), anything that starts with "a short history of [incredibly complex geopolitical event]", or literally any historical account that spans centuries/countries/cultures/individuals. while there is definitely some gray areas and overlap, a good way to attempt to distinguish micro from the macro is macrohistory looks at how an individual/event/object/place changed and influenced the world/society/culture -- an outward expansion of one idea that proliferates time and space. microhistory is the inverse. how did the contemporary society, culture, and world change and influence a specific, tangential individual/place/event? the micro attempts to answer that! so let's reduce the scale of investigation! focus on the ones history would have otherwise forgotten if not for the diligent note takers! we're talking footnotes! anecdotes! indexes! the hot goss! EA-NASIR! macrohistory is about everyone but microhistory is about you and me baby!

Non-fiction books about the renaissance. Books written during or leading up to the renaissance. and fiction books set during the renaissance.

nonfiction!

Every book that has been adapted into a movie covered by the Blank Check podcast

Ever feel like reading a slightly shorter book about a specific subject? Maybe as a break of other books or perhaps to satisfy a sudden craving for random knowledge? Well, here you go!

(not all of them are niche, but still interesting)

Paired reading method where queer/ feminist theory (or nonfiction) basically French kisses fiction🕺💗👭🏻🌈 let'ssss go I guess??

I made this list just to keep up with all the pairings I've planned for this year and I thought I would share it in case there were others interested in these topics as well 🥰
