Once More Upon a Time is a snarky, fairytale inspired novella that follows a young prince and princess who had once fallen in love but had traded that love to a witch in order to save the princess' life. Now exiled from their kingdom since the rulers there can only stay in charge if they are truly in love, they must rediscover their love or forever part ways.
Unfortunately, this one just really wasn't my cup of tea. It had moments that as a long-time fan of fairytales and fantasy in general, I found amusing or appealing but overall, it's in that category of snarky parodies that are too focused on the joke and not enough on the characters or story for my personal enjoyment. It reminded me a bit of [b:Kill the Farm Boy|34431692|Kill the Farm Boy (The Tales of Pell, #1)|Delilah S. Dawson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1520963341l/34431692._SY75_.jpg|55538097] although thankfully it doesn't get quite to the constant jokes of that one.
I probably would have DNFed this if it weren't so short and if I hadn't picked it up for a readathon. I prefer my comedic fantasy to be more subtle and less on the nose, but this might be more your cup of tea if you don't mind that in your humorous fairytales.
This is a cute novella. My one pet peeve with it is the transition sound between chapters was annoying.
Super fun otherwise and very quick listen.
I'm always a fan of fairy tales, and this was one had such a fun twist. I loved the characters, especially the noble steed.
