If you ask someone what apocalyptic fiction they've read involving zombies, there's a fair chance most or even all of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most publication & promotion in the genre

My hope is that this list will help someone find a new favourite author! ♡

Not intended as a list of good neurodivergent & dis rep (thou many of them absolutely are - lots are even written by disabled/ND authors! I just haven't read them all, so can't recommend every book on this list), but disabled or neurodivergent characters feature heavily in these stories of survival

In honour of the 2026 nominations, this list compiles all the nominees for the Hugo Award for Best Novel from 2010 - 2026.

July is Disability Pride Month! Here's a big pile of books with disabled characters. All the books also have at least one queer character, and in most cases, the queer character and the disabled character are one and the same. (There are a few non-fiction titles in the mix as well; representation for queerness may be subtext/interpreted). (This list is presented by Duck Prints Press, the indie publisher focused on publishing queer art and stories by queer creators! A group of us collaborate to make these recommendations.)

Post-apocalyptic books - not apocalyptic (happening in the book). Books where an apocalyptic event has happened - nuclear bombs, viral outbreak, the Thanos snap and society is trying to put itself back together or just living in the post-apocalyptic world.
