How can a book cover forty years, but absolutely nothing happens? The only thing you read about is a magical old woman who wanted to die, and a cowardly lion who was too dumb to realize he was being used, and even when he realized it, was still dumb enough to fall for it again. Every page of this book was just a repeat of the two previous books. And characters were brought back for no reason and no explanation just for "plot purposes," like Malky? Where the hell did he come from? The only redeeming factor of this book was that it was quick to get through, if I could sit down long enough to read it.

This is the Cowardly Lion’s book—it gets into Elphaba and her family somewhat, but it’s not about her, so if you’re looking for Wicked, probably just read that one (book 1).

Slow-paced, yet interesting for the most part, intriguing and at times, tore at the heartstrings. I enjoyed the glimpses into Oz it gave, as well as the time with Dorothy that it showed.

I also enjoyed all mentions of Elphaba of course, and the updates on Liir … this was an enlightening installment.

    Overall:
    Not bad. 4 stars.
