Recs if you like Parable of the Talents...

Fiction & nonfiction books that explore the complexities and traumas of mother-child relationships or in which such relationships play a central role. While many books on this list are what I’d classify as including “mommy issues” there are others that are more about the different perspectives and nuances of the mother-child (often specifically mother-daughter) relationship. Some books center the child, some the mother, some both.

Suggestions are welcome.

Books in this list are in at least two quests. Thus helping to earn more badges. Books will span different genres. Once I scan through all the quests, I plan to further organize the list. I am thinking of creating a seperate list and moving the books with three or more quests to the new list and keeping the two badge books in this list. A list of all the novels which won the Best Novel category of the Nebula Awards. To be nominated for this award a story must be 40,000 words or more and published in English in the US and it must be either a science fiction or fantasy story. This list should be in descending order (most recent winners first while earlier winners are further down.

Everyone knows George Orwell or Aldous Huxley. Their works are considered to be the staples of dystopia stories.

But are they?

Most of the people know Octavia E. Butler or Margaret Atwood. They showed the feminine side of dystopia. But this subgenre of science fiction have much more to offer.

Disability & Neurodivergency stories are rare in apocalypse & zombie books. I've found as many as I could!

Not intended as a list of good neurodivergent & dis rep (thou many of them absolutely are - lots are even written by disabled/ND authors! I just haven't yet read them all, so can't recommend every book on this list), but disabled or neurodivergent characters feature heavily in these stories of survival

The most comprehensive list of award winning sci-fi and fantasy novels. The books on this list have won either 1 or multiple awards out of the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Locus Sci-Fi, Locus Fantasy, goodreads Choice Fantasy, or goodreads Science Fiction Awards.

This is a collection of novels that invites you to explore, as well as reflect on the complicated and disturbing depths of humanity, especially with regards to history, globalization, politics, and most importantly; how our relationship to nature itself has been challenged.

These Diverse Baseline Challenge was created by @bookish.millennial & @themargherita.s (on instagram). In 2025, the goal is to read 1 book by a racialized author each month.
