Konferensen

Mats Strandberg

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

So, this was a ride. So freaking exciting! The weird part is, that if this would not have been a horror book, but instead just about these office workers and their hatred for each other, I would have loved that as well.

The first half of the book is very different from the last half. In the first part, we learn a lot about the characters, their lives, their history and what their aim is during this conference. There is little to no horror in the first part. However, it is so interesting because the characters feel so alive that I was not sure if I was reading about fictional characters or people I knew. I was actually feeling like I could skip the horror part because I just wanted to know about the proof Nadja had on Jonas and how she would stop him. The drama between everyone was excellent! And it felt like a different kind of horror. The one where you feel like yeah this is real life and this is stuff that happens everywhere and people are like this.

Then the actual horror part began. At first I did not really feel it. Not that it was bad, but it wasn't that scary. Maybe I was still too into the drama and didn't want to let go of that. Maybe I just want my horror books to not have an amazing side story before the horror begins, just so that I can focus on the horror. Anyway, it got really disgusting after a while. The way they were hurt and killed in was so disgusting! The description made me feel their pain. I could understand how much everyone was hurting. It became a slasher horror. And that was when I realised that I would never ever be able to watch this as a movie. In a book I can skip and I don't really see it as clearly, but this would be super scary as a horror movie. It would be excellent as a horror movie as well. I do hope they make a movie out of it.

Some parts were easy to guess, others I was surprised about. The murderer I could kind of guess pretty early, but I had thought it was a little bit different than it turned out. Still good, though. Who would live and die was surprising as well. I liked and both hated what they did to one of the characters. I didn't want that for that person, just wanted a happier ending there, but sure I can see the appeal.

It's a brilliant horror story. It's a little bit difficult to get into the horror part at first, but then it really takes off and was so exciting that I can't not give it 5 stars. Might be the best book of the year. Have I already said that about another book? Well, it do be excellent though.
