Was I Ever Here (Was I Ever, #1)

Naomi Loud

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Five years ago I bled to death from a knife to the throat. But I didn’t stay dead. I woke up changed and remembered far too much. I have been haunted by the memories of my past lives ever since. For five years I’ve had the illogical certainty that I’ve spent lifetimes connected to the same soul. Lifetimes of love, heartache, and betrayal. But was I destined to find them again? As fate would have it, while seeking revenge for my death, my murderer led me straight to her. Sunny. The first time I saw her, she was trembling with fear behind the bar as I held a gun to her boss’ head. Instantly, I knew she was the one. She was terrified of me, but now that I’ve found her, there’s no way I’m letting her go. She will be mine again. All she needs to do is remember. *Was I Ever Here is a dark romance with a guaranteed HEA. It has mature situations and themes which may be considered triggers for some. Reader discretion is advised.*

I need to start by saying that this debut work very briefly features one of my favorite tropes - when the FMC lets the incredibly, exorbitantly rich MMC HELP HER PAY SOME OF HER BILLS. Thank you, Naomi!

This one has HEAVY, HEAVY themes. Read TWs.

There is so much to love about Sunny and Byzantine: enduring love, staring pain right in the face, sometimes brutal character development…the author really captured the way it felt for Sunny to work up to fully trusting a man with her head, when her heart told her they were already there.

Also, I want to note that one of my Kindle notes reads “the sex is so good she transcends time and space. Lucky bitch.”

Plus, the breadcrumbs leading to the next couple in the series already have me wanting the second book in my hands.

the storyline and concept of this book was immaculate! i feel like the reincarnation trope doesn’t get much love since very few books are out there with it.

but this one! what a ride! i absolutely loved the chemistry and tension between the two MC’s. i laughed at some parts, swooned (especially all the sweet things he does for sunny) and i also cried. i truly felt the pain sunny was going through with her grief.

when he searched for her for 5 years after he remembered their past lives together…what a dedicated hero.

    Safety squad:
    no virgins
no ow drama (nothing about the H’s past is mentioned)
not messaging om drama but there was a scene between the fmc and another man on page. she was also best friends with a past hook up

The reincarnation trope with a love that lasts through lifetimes. Is there anything else you could ask for?

This book was raw, emotional, and heartbreaking at times and took you on an entire journey.

It was so beautifully written and incredibly poetic, especially in the scenes with the flashbacks.

"What is the point of this love if it is only to leave me so hollow? I am nothing without your love, but I am also nothing with it."

    Absolutely recommend this book 🖤
