Jenny meets Jaewoo one night in LA at a karaoke bar, and both start falling for each other fast. They are able to spend a few more hours together touring the city and attending a Korean festival before Jaewoo has to leave to go back to Korea. Jaewoo promises Jenny to keep in touch through messages, but once he boards the plane to Korea, he ghosts Jenny. (Boy, I was so pissed at Jaewoo because he was so into Jenny and then once he got back to Korea, he just stopped responding to her texts. We find out later in the story the reason why, but still😭😭) In Korea, Jaewoo is part of a K-pop boy group named XOXO. Even though they are a newer boy group, they are already very famous and well loved. However, Jenny has no idea who Jaewoo really is until she has to move to Korea for a few months with her mom. Jenny plays the cello and was able to get into a music academy where she once again meets Jaewoo. During this time, she finds out Jaewoo’s true identity, but this doesn’t stop them from sneaking around behind the scenes and eventually entering a relationship together. In my opinion, this book wrote about Korean culture so well! As a non-Korean, I found myself enjoying the information the author gave us about certain aspects of the culture—terminology/phrases (like how to address people based on your relationship to them), the food, some expectations for those in the idol industry, and other general customs that are touched on in the book. Genuinely, this book was like a warm hug mixed with that K-drama addictiveness that found me at just the right time. I never knew how much I wanted to read a K-drama or K-pop style book until I read this one. Now, I will be desperately searching for more books like this😩 Also, this book was safe for me and would be safe for a lot of my safety friends on here. Bonus points for this!! Safety info: • no info on their past if any • no detailed spice or anything more than kissing/touching • no real OW aside from fans who have crushes on Jaewoo • small OM- a guy gave Jenny his number and flirted with her when she first moved to Korea, but Jenny never texted OM. OM shows up one more time later in the story and still has feelings for Jenny. Jenny turns him down because she likes Jaewoo and OM gets upset but leaves her alone. Not a big part of the story at all because it was only 2 scenes and it’s never really brought up aside from those scenes!
