Reading Under the Covers

So, I hated this book so very much.

I never like giving bad reviews but I must. I just didn’t like this book. If I’m honest it lost me in the first few pages but after looking through some reviews and seeing that I wasn’t the only person who had some issues at the beginning and that if I gave it a try it would get better.

Oh boy, do I regret that. I was totally lost. I couldn’t wrap my head around half of what was going on or where the story was going. I just got so very confused that I just didn’t enjoy the book. I’m not going to say story because I don’t really know where the story was. It was just a bunch of words written down to make a story.

The plot like was all over the place. There would be these bits in-between chapters which I suppose was to give you a backstory to a certain character that I just don’t understand what they were doing in there.

I got that the book was definitely not set in our time and in the future. What I didn’t get is what happened? And why? Where does this ‘fever’ that gives people ‘powers’ come from? Why do certain people don’t and others do? There are just so many questions and that’s what bugged me. I was reading and I’m like but why? I don’t understand.

The characters. Well they’re dull and incredibly boring. The main character had zero personality and I felt like I would rather watch paint dry then read about him. All the other characters just bored the hell out of me as well. I just couldn’t relate to any of them and they were just so badly written.

The only good part of this book was the romance between two people, the same sex. It through a curve ball during the book. It explored something that a lot of writers are afraid to explore and I salute Victoria for that but that’s where the good ends.

Unfortunately, even after struggling to get through this book, I have no plans to read the next one and wishing I hadn’t pushed myself through this one.
