I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the continuation of The CandyMakers by Wendy Mass, and will be difficult to understand without having read the previous book. It is an upper elementary or middle school book, not really meant for reading to kindergarten or lower grades, as some previous reviewers have clearly done.

An extremely enjoyable book, the story picks up shortly after the conclusion of the previous book, with sections featuring the voice of each of the four leading characters. As in the CandyMakers, this book is a unique blend of a spy and mystery novel, with the characters all making both literal and figurative journeys of discovery.

This book does drag in the middle, as parts of the story gets repeated several times (by different characters). It can present a challenge at times remembering what has happened in the retelling, and some confusion is likely. However, all comes together in the end, with a potential hint of possible further books in the series. CandyMakers is a book I frequently recommend to kids at this reading level, and this sequel will be very popular as well.
