I enjoy this series so much and a big part of it is that, as a fellow immigrant to Scotland, I really relate to T.L. Huchu. You feel his love for this place and culture and his fascination with its history, but also his ability as an outsider to see the country’s faults.
This is the first of the Edinburgh Nights series to be set outside of the city and it was fun to dive into a new place’s history. Huchu does an excellent job of bringing the magic to life and you really feel what it would be like to be trapped with everyone in the castle.
I did feel like we lost a bit of Ropa’s voice in this one, but overall it was a fun read and I’m excited to continue the series.
