Jayce’s mother makes porcelain organs, is lying about her job, and is keeping far too many secrets. Red and Matthew’s father vanished ten years ago, and the grief gnaws only at them; everyone else in the town of Ravenhill, Oregon, has moved on, as they very often do regarding the strange occurrences this place is drowning in. However, when Jayce’s mother disappears without a trace as well, the nightmares that have haunted her son for half of his life intensify. As the police are not too keen on finding her and neither are the townspeople, Matt, Red, and Jayce have to take it upon themselves to understand the situation. Moreover, a mysterious entity has spawned in Jayce’s dreams, wearing Matt’s face, and it seems hell bent on keeping this decade-old case under wraps — even if it means killing its host.
