"Place as character" is usually reserved for lush descriptions that bring environments to life, and less often used for environments that have a life of their own. This list includes houses, homes, castles, spaceships, anywhere people will spend time and call home. Not meant to include haunted houses, but a case could be argued for specific ones. c:

whether it's straight-up Jane Austen retellings, set in an alternative regency-era England, or a whole new world that has those prim and proper vibes, these books all introduce magic, spells, and perhaps even a bit of whimsy into the familiar regency setting (may also contain Victorian or Gregorian-era like fantasy novels, since they can have a lot of overlap in vibes!)

Buildings that have strong opinions, rearrange floor plans or don't stay where you left them.

A collection of books that are or feel like historical romance and from a time long past, with elements of magic, whimsy and fantasy!

Historical fiction with magic, whether a lot or a little. I've mainly included books set in the 19th century to the early 20th. Some don't specify what year they're set in but have the 'vibes' of that era.

First book in a series counts as the entire series.

There seems to be a trend and I'm loving it!

Fantasy which exists within the confines of an elaborate hierarchical society, often with lots of rules attached. Lots of crossover with historical fiction and historical fantasy; might be good for fans of Austen, Wilde, &c!
