fantasy with regency-era vibes

whether it's straight-up Jane Austen retellings, set in an alternative regency-era England, or a whole new world that has those prim and proper vibes, these books all introduce magic, spells, and perhaps even a bit of whimsy into the familiar regency setting (may also contain Victorian or Gregorian-era like fantasy novels, since they can have a lot of overlap in vibes!)

ooh!! would To Shape A Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose fit? it has the prim + proper vibe, and takes place in a similar feel of colonial US.

haven’t read it yet but i’ll happily add it since this i don’t have many (if any) colonial-critical books here! thanks!!

This is one of my favorite subgenres!

Scales and Sensibility by Stephanie Burgis

Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger (this series is YA. There is another series that happens after this one that starts with the book Poison or Protect and is definitely more adult. The series that follows that, The Parasol Protectorate is also adult but by that time they're more Victorian than Regency)

Manners and Monsters by Tilly Wallace

Changeling by Molly Harper

The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet by Melinda Taub

a plethora of recommendations! thanks, i’ve added all of these!! (only did etiquette and espionage to act as a representative for the whole connected series)
