The challenge: spend a week hiding in an abandoned amusement park and don't get caught. The prize: enough money to change everything. Even though everyone is desperate to win--to seize their dream futures or escape their haunting pasts--Mack feels sure that she can beat her competitors. All she has to do is hide, and she's an expert at that. It's the reason she's alive, and her family isn't. But as the people around her begin disappearing one by one, Mack realizes this competition is more sinister than even she imagined, and that together might be the only way to survive.Fourteen competitors. Seven days. Everywhere to hide, but nowhere to run. Come out, come out, wherever you are.

okay wow. what a departure from kiersten white's normal writing.
i finished this book in one day. ONE DAY!
the plot was there, and it was thick. the setting was haunting. the tone was always slightly dark. the characters were well fleshed out; although there were 14+, you get to know them intimately in their own ways and learn their stories. the whole book was full of suspense right to the very end. i think this could have a sequel, but also, i hope it doesn't.
i would like to compare this to something (like the hunger games meets squid games), but i will say this is a dash of horror. not much, but enough to make one feel icky if they don't like scary things.
i give it 4.5 stars. i always like kiersten white's books, and this is no exception.
