Recs if you like One of Us Knows...

this is your reminder to read books by Black authors all month, all year, every year— not just during Black History Month. it’s crucially important to be able to diversify your reading and your bookshelves. expand your mind, your perspectives, your knowledge, and your taste. if you don’t know where to start, here are some recommendations!

Combo of new and older fiction written by talented Black and African writers ranging from adult to YA to middle grade. Thriller, fantasy, literary fiction and everything in between!

If you’re not familiar with Mychal, he is the new host of The Reading Rainbow and he has been spreading “library joy” on social media for years. Mychal has a book club on Fable that is for a more mature audience than The RR. He has posted a new book monthly since March 2024. I have enjoyed every book I’ve read from his club! I am not Mychal Threets and I do not know him personally. I am creating this list to help share a bit of Mychal’s Library Joy with Pagebound.

From psychological suspense to cult conspiracies and jaw-dropping endings, this club celebrates bold storytelling, complex characters, and the kind of books that keep you reading “just one more chapter” at 2 a.m.

A silly little collection of a trend I've noticed recently, usually among thrillers. Some of these probably have alternate covers as well, but I'm including them because I've seen one which fits. Suggestions welcome! Simply ask yourself: Is house blue? Is window yellow?

Multiple or dissociated selves/minds, one body. Intentionally and unintentionally written. (Mainly what I found relatable. Excluded stories where it's a reveal.) I try to avoid books where the plurality is treated as an inherent problem or evil, though the plurality may be involved in problems to overcome.
