Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival

If you ask someone what apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fiction they've read, there's a fair chance much of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most promotion in the genre.

According to the ALA, “The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. It is named for a Topeka, Kansas school librarian who was a long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association.”
