Ambitious New York City teenager Craig Gilner is determined to succeed at life - which means getting into the right high school to get into the right job. But once Craig aces his way into Manhattan's Executive Pre-Professional High School, the pressure becomes unbearable. He stops eating and sleeping until, one night, he nearly kills himself. Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety. Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a remarkably moving tale about the sometimes unexpected road to happiness.

This story was not on a funny topic but I sure did make me laugh. I like the perspective from which this story was told. I love/hate the background story. I wish Ned would not have killed himself he was a great writer.

This story was a really unique story. The story as mentioned above is about Craig who checks himself into the psychiatric ward. The story is based off of Ned’s own time in the psychiatric hospital. I thought that was so interesting.

The book is really clever and funny. Certain aspects of the story make you laugh some make you sad. Ned’s writing style is so unique. The beginning was kind of slow but it was that building part where you build the character. The way Ned wrote it was different from a lot of other writers who build the background over time. Ned just splayed it all out in the beginning.

This book was really great. I read it quickly because I just couldn’t put it down. I liked it a lot there wasn’t anything I thought really bad about it. It was a serious book that made you laugh which I thought was incredible.
