I’m not going to lie, this one was hard to get through. Without getting into too much detail, the main character has a lot of body image issues that affect how she interacts with the world, and although I know that was the point, I found it very hard to read for 90% of the book. The book is well written, the characters fleshed out, the plot plausible and interesting, but the key conflict really dampened my ability to enjoy the book. I love a good commentary, but this book very much just read like “my body type makes me less valuable as a person”, and it was hard to take any other lesson from the book despite the attempt at an overarching acceptance theme.
