I walked around in a daze for several days after finishing this book. Wow. This series has completely captivated me, and I'm convinced that it really is one of the most universal stories ever told. I've always been more interested in the Hobbits as characters, so the first half of the book was a bit challenging for me to get through, but the second half captivated me. I hoped that Frodo and Sam would triumph, but I had never imagined the story would end so bittersweetly. I have so many thoughts and feelings it is hard to make sense of them. I now want to read every essay about this series that has ever been written and learn everything about Tolkien.
