We have a lot of requests in our library for these, so I figured I would provide the page bound community with our list!

I have spent years curating a list of graphic novels for myself on goodreads and I thought this place would be great to share it and share my love for graphic novels. I’m not picky about the plot or topics of the graphic novels I read so the list is pretty much any graphic novel I have heard of regardless of topic. Many are middle grade or young adult as is the general trend of the format but recommendations for more (especially adult) would be greatly appreciated.

Also manga is not included.

Notable comics, graphic novels and mangas to get into the genre. This format of books is so underrated, so I wanted to create a diverse list of notable works across the history of 'comics'! I tried to highlight nonfiction and fiction works that are recognizable to the widest variety of people (mostly because of their adaptation), while also adding less widely known books. The goal of the list is to help find at least one 'comic' you want read, if you don't really read 'comics'! (inspired by Les 1001 BDs by Trécarré)

An eclectic mix of fantasy, sci-fi, and nonfiction that either reimagines our world, builds an entirely new one, or reveals the wonders of the real world. If a book is part of a series, I’ve only included the first one.

These mythological and folkloric retellings and reimaginings hail from various mythological pantheons (many are Greco-Roman, but I’m working on expanding my own reading to add more diversity) and excite with their magic, characters, and immersive plot lines. As with most of my lists, there is an emphasis on women’s experiences!

I love YA. It can suck pretty bad when the books try to copy each other. But when some of those gems pop up...wowza! Who knew you could tell such a hard-hitting story without having to resort to 1,000 pages & sex?

A lot of people ask me where to start with reading comics. This list will feature plenty of standalone series and one-offs. But anything from a serialized series will feature a good jumping on point.

I'm going to try and not have any repetition with creators, just to keep things broad.
