Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

In the wake of a destructive tornado, one girl develops feelings for another in this stunning, tender novel about emerging identity, perfect for fans of The Thing About Jellyfish. When a tornado rips through town, twelve-year-old Ivy Aberdeen's house is destroyed and her family of five is displaced. Ivy feels invisible and ignored in the aftermath of the storm--and what's worse, her notebook filled with secret drawings of girls holding hands has gone missing. Mysteriously, Ivy's drawings begin to reappear in her locker with notes from someone telling her to open up about her identity. Ivy thinks--and hopes--that this someone might be her classmate, another girl for whom Ivy has begun to develop a crush. Will Ivy find the strength and courage to follow her true feelings? Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World exquisitely enriches the rare category of female middle-grade characters who like girls--and children's literature at large.

    Characters-10

Ivy and June were great. I loved them, and I loved seeing their friendship form into a romance. They were also both creative which I loved. I also enjoyed the Aberdeen's were great, and I loved seeing their family dynamic across the book.

    Atmosphere-9

I wanted to see more of the school, and I wanted to see more of the hotel where Ivy was living.
The treehouse as June's Space was great though.

    Writing-10

Ashley Herrling Blake could write the telephone book and I would read it. I love her writing style. This was the first book I read from her for Middle-Grade, and it lived up just as well as the adult books I've read from her.

    Plot-9

I enjoyed the discovery, and finding yourself that this book was. I enjoyed the friendships, and learning who your true friends are. I wish we had gotten to the romance faster.

    Intrigue-9

This was an engaging story. I was curious as to where the story was going to go.

    Logic-10

This was a logical story. The characters explain their emotions and feelings, and so it's easy to see where they're coming from.

    Enjoyment-9
This was an enjoyable story. I had a great time reading it, and it had a lot of heart. This was an important story for kids in this age group.
