There are secrets around every corner in Fayette, Pennsylvania. Tessa left when she was nine and has been trying ever since not to think about what happened there that last summer. She and her childhood best friend Callie never talked about what they saw. Not before the trial. And certainly not after. But ever since she left, Tessa has had questions. Things have never quite added up. And now she has to go back to Fayette--to Wyatt Stokes, sitting on death row; to Lori Cawley, Callie's dead cousin; and to the one other person who may be hiding the truth. Only the closer Tessa gets to what really happened, the closer she gets to a killer--and this time, it won't be so easy to run away. From the Hardcover edition.

When Tess left Fayette, Pennsylvania when she was nine, she wasn't sure she would ever return. Fayette holds nothing but bad memories for her; her father in prison for life, her mother and older sister sister both abandoning her, and the memories of when her best friend's cousin was murdered and Tess and Callie were the ones to witness and identify the killer.
Tess knows that nothing good will come of her returning to the one place that has given her so much pain, but when she learns her father is dying from cancer, she knows she needs to go back to say goodbye.
Callie never left Fayette. She also didn't make any attempts to stay in touch with Tess either. To say their friendship is in the weeds is an understatement. To make things even more uncomfortable, Tess is staying with Callie and her family while she says her goodbyes.
Tess can't escape the past, and longer she stays in Fayette the deeper she is brought back to mystery surrounding the murders from the past, and the pain that she is finding in the present. Can Tess solve the new mystery before it's too late? What if she and Callie were wrong about what they said in the past?
This is a great roller coaster of a mystery. I found myself immediately drawn in to the story and not wanting to put it down. So much so that I read the whole hour and 15 minutes of waiting for a table for dinner on Saturday night (not sure my husband enjoyed my face in a book while he sat around...). There are definite adult themes going on this book, so I would recommend it for an older teen. It has great twists and turns though and it will be great for teens like enjoy mysteries/thrillers. Highly recommended.
