One of the better presentations of ENM in art/media, so much more realistic, honest, and vulnerable than other portrayals (looking at you Netflix with Sex/Life) but there are still moments that fall short. The breaking of rules, the double standards, the continual resentment and judgment of Stuart’s girlfriends needed further investigation but without a surprise, that’s an area the author choose not to/didn’t want to get into. Overall, I’d recommend this as a rather honest look into an open marriage.
As much as we expect vulnerability from memoir, this is RAW. Molly bears all, and this is an engrossing, fascinating read for it. It does not try to prescribe non-monogamy or even claim it to be a preferable option over closed relationships. Instead, we get an intense and vulnerable account of the beauty and pain that comes with opening a marriage, including all the jealousy and near-betrayals (and yes, sex).
Without being preachy, More shows how opening a marriage can bring spouses even closer and how honesty and openness are the real keys to intimacy.
