Dark Wolf (Dark, #22)

Christine Feehan

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death. Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming… No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

In an effort to find an audiobook to listen to at work, I remembered Christine Feehan. Her romance series about the Carpathian had been some of the first romance books I've ever encountered.

I vaguely remembered a storyline where there's a young girl named Skylar who falls for a man named Dimitri and he is frequently in a wolf form but I could not remember how this storyline ended. I requested the book Dark Wolf from the library because I thought it was their story. And it is their story, but not the part that I remembered, which was when Skyler was much younger.
Dark Wolf does not follow the same format of many of Feehan’s other books. In this book, Skyler and Dimitri know that they are lifemates and she already loves him at the beginning. She is determined to rescue him from the werewolves. So there is a lot of tension and action and extensive time where the two are not together. This was a little frustrating.
All in all, I'm almost done with the book and the have only been two sex scenes. The first time when there is physical intimacy, Skylar and Dimitri have just woken up after almost dying and her undergoing the conversion, they should be extremely extremely weak, desperate for nourishment, but he is turning her on and starts to finger her, with people nearby and them being so weak.
The first sex scene is not awful, but this second one almost at the end of the book is super cringe worthy.
They are in a field and basically are mouth fucking a flower, sucking out all its nectar and rubbing it against their own private parts before sucking on it more and eating the petals. It's just super not sexy to me.
