A fresh and provocative story about a residential assistant and her messy entanglement with a professor and three unruly students. It's 2017 at the University of Arkansas. Millie Cousins, a senior resident assistant, wants to graduate, get a job, and buy a house. So when Agatha Paul, a visiting professor and writer, offers Millie an easy yet unusual opportunity, she jumps at the chance. But Millie's starry-eyed hustle becomes jeopardised by odd new friends, vengeful dorm pranks and illicit intrigue. A fresh and intimate portrait of desire, consumption and reckless abandon, Come and Get It is a tension-filled story about money, indiscretion, and bad behavior.

uhh... where do I begin. Disclaimer: I did the audiobook, which is the only reason I finished. Had it been a physical copy I think I would have DNF'd somewhere around the 50% mark. Truly, nothing happens in this book (until almost the very end, and it's not even close to being worth sticking around for). I'm all for a litfic, social commentary, character study, quiet novel; I even loved Reid's debut Such A Fun Age, which was also (mostly) a character study. Come and Get it really pushes the boundaries of what can even be considered a story; this is basically loosely connected vignettes, the threads rarely interweaving, with no satisfying payoff at the end. The audiobook narrator was great and totally saved the experience, so I'm still glad I picked this up - I'll still read Reid's next novel, but dang she's on thin ice!!
