Messy Queer Fiction for Autumn Hill 💌

Autumn Hill is a Prairieland Defendant, sentenced to 50 years in prison for protesting outside of an ICE detention facility, in a move intended to quell all political dissent. To support her, she says “send me more messy gay fiction” especially by queer authors of color!

Books should be paperbacks, purchased new and sent directly from Amazon, and addressed to:

Johnson County Jail, TX Cameron Arnold, 202502023 P.O. Box 247 Phoenix, MD 21131

Suggestions very welcome! 🫶🏽 More info in comments!

You can also send her or the other Prairieland Defendants letters! Find their contact info and learn more about them 🔗here.

I’ve been checking these books against the list of banned books compiled 🔗by the Marshall Project. I haven’t read most of these yet, though, so please let me know if there’s content in any of them that would be objectionable to prison censors (they do not distinguish between depiction and endorsement).

Feel free to leave a comment if you’ve sent a book! That way we can avoid collectively sending too many duplicates 😉

They posted a little more info about Autumn’s interests on the Prairieland Defendants’ website:

“Autumn Hill, also known by her drag handle Lady Hell, is a neuroqueer self-advocate with a special interest in all things taboo, an enchanted materialist, and an explorer of the further regions of experience. She likes stories in the genres of reimagined ancient myth, new weird, gothic horror, splatterpunk, and messy queer romance, and is an avid student of world history, religious, economic, and political. She plays grand strategy and action roleplaying video games like Crusader Kings 3 and Elden Ring in the Free World, and roleplays on the tabletop as often as she can get co-players in jail.”

Absolutely brilliant use of a Pagebound list, kishmish!

💕 ty! Shout out to @AJ_in_Huchiun, whose post in the PB club gave me the idea!

I didn’t realize you had actually made this list- THANK YOU! I am coming back to this next time I am in an irl bookshop to send her something since it needs to be new.

3

💕💕 It needs to be new, but you also can’t ship it yourself, I think. In one spot on their website, it says they can only be sent directly from the publisher and in another spot it says only from major retailers like amazon, B&N, etc. & lists a different address. Typically terrible with the conflicting information!

I just found this 🔗Books to Prisons link that’s probably more accurate and recommends Amazon only so I’m going to update the description to reflect that.

Omg 😫

AND thank you for distilling the info- I have written to people in prison but never sent books

2

I’ve sent books to other jails, not to this one, but they’re also constantly changing all these rules, so who really knows. Inshallah something reaches her, but more than that, inshallah she’s free soon and the entire prison system is destroyed.

💯💯💯

Right?

"Unmagical Life of Briar Jones" is decidedly messy and queer. Sending all the best!

3

Thank you! 💜 I’ve added it! It sounds so fun.

She has such good taste! Thank you for this list ❤️

3

Thank you so much! 💗 Doesn’t she, just? All the topics she’s interested in make for such engaging reading!

I sent Plastic Prism Void from 🔗littlepuss.net. Unfortunately, they use one of those shop pay systems for checkout, so I’m not sure the address will be formatted correctly to reach Autumn. If I hear back about it (which is unlikely, tbh), I’ll update here!
