A forbidden, timeless, and haunting love story. Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Fallon who was taken far away from home shortly after she was born. A home that held more than strange traditions and bizarre superstitions. Twenty-four years later, she returned to Weeping Hollow, a town she’d only heard about in stories during restless nights under a marble moon, in the middle of the night to take care of her last living relative. They called the nosy mortician a freakshow–a ghastly thing. They said I couldn’t go near her. Still, there was this aching pull to Fallon Grimaldi that I couldn’t escape. A nostalgic pull as if we’d been here before. Once upon a time, there lived a mysterious boy named Julian with a curse as old as centuries wrapped around his soul. He was one of the four Hollow Heathens, the very dark creatures who caused the town’s people to live in fear. And the Blackwell name was stained with darkness and death. They called him a monster. Cold and hollow. They said I shouldn’t go near him. Still, there was this aching pull to Julian Blackwell that I couldn’t escape. A nostalgic pull as if we’d been here before.

Set in Weeping Hollow, a magical town that only lets certain people in. Once you’re in, the town won’t let you leave.
This novel is about Fallon, whose grandfather calls her to Weeping Hollow because he’s sick. When she arrives, it turns out, he never asked for her to come. Because she can’t leave, Fallon gets a job at the local funeral home.
On her first day in town she meets Julian, a masked man, who is a member of the Hollow Heathens, a group of men who are cursed.
My review:
This book was probably my favourite book I’ve read so far this year. It was so fucking atmospheric, I just can’t even. I loved Fallon and Julian and the other characters. I love the curse and her grandpa and the town and everything.
Honestly, I wish I could move to Weeping Hollow. I will probably re read this real soon just so I can spend more time there. I cannot wait for the next book!
This book captured my attention from the very beginning and didn’t let go until the very end. I was wholly invested in all these characters, but none more than Fallon and Julian. They are doomed from the start, but something keeps drawing them back to each other. I love that Fallon is not willing to see Julian as the monster those around him have labeled him all his life, and is willing to fight to prove his worth, especially his self-worth.
It was a longer book than I usually read, but it didn’t detract from the story. I feel it needed to be in order to really capture the setting, the history, and the conflict of the story properly. I loved it and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
