I would rate this series lower, but I was intrigued enough after book 1 to pay $4.99 for book 2 and again for book 3, so this is on me.
I love a marriage in trouble book. Jax and Esther have gotten into a bit of a rut. Jax is asked by a young lady at work to coach her and her friends playing DnD. It was supposed to be one night, so he doesn’t tell Esther to spare her feelings. Then … IT TURNS INTO A YEAR LONG CAMPAIGN PLAYING 1-2 TIMES A WEEK. This fucker is playing DND secretly.
Their mutual friends figure out he’s lying about his whereabouts, and one of them tells Esther. Esther doesn’t confront him right away, she decides to win him back, assuming he’s having an affair. Another friend (a PI) gets pics of him leaving a house with 4 other young women and now Esther doesn’t know what to think. The truth comes out.
I liked how Jax handled this, even confessing to his kids.
