Kind, beefy, and bumbling, these male love interests are sweet and maybe a tad spicy.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.

A novella to hold us over until the next release. Classic Maya Alden, man does something dumb or awful, woman dumps his ass, he has to win her back. This guy actually apologizes and makes things right.

5 star adventure This is a hero that will strap himself to the underside of a Jeep and hold on for 2 hours to rescue his lady. That’s all you need to know. Buck is a CIA agent sent to bring Zaire from Rome to the US after she’s overheard plans to attack a US embassy. The bad guys are real bad, and Buck and Zaire are on the run all over Rome to escape. Both are competent at their jobs and have to work together to stop the baddies and survive. There’s suspense, running from gun fire, the sights of Rome, danger banging. Great fun read. I’ll be in Italy this summer so it was a good warm up for my trip, though I hope I don’t get into as much trouble as Zaire. Arc provided by the publisher, thank you!

A soap opera style romance. So much happens in this book and I was surprised by all of it. Laugh out loud funny in parts, sad in others, sexy as hell. Set at a California resort it’s beautiful and filled with beautiful people. Logan is a retired Marine, first day on his new job in security for the hotel when he meets Connor. It’s immediate attraction for both of them. Flirty and cute. Logan HAS TO KEEP HIS JOB, so even though they have a very hot kiss, he breaks things off because Connor’s family owns the resort. Then…. 5 years later…. the story really begins. Logan and Connor go through a lot, there’s lots of external conflict and their own relationship drama. This is a great setup of characters and setting for the series. I look forward to more! Arc provided by the publisher CW: homophobia, Connor’s family is shitty, challenging of gay stereotypes

Ah! Fun, action packed, full of tension, beautiful people blowing things up. 2 people have amnesia, but just lose the last 48 hours when they wake up hand cuffed together. Alex meets King on the night before “spy school “, and she keeps calling it spy school to annoy King. He tells her she can’t hack it and to go home. But he’s really thinking Alex is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen and she’s going to wreck him. We time hop between present day while Alex and King try to figure out why someone is trying to kill then, and the 10 prior years of them fight/flirting on jobs. The reader doesn’t know what’s going on in any time line, but we know they were together or almost together at some point but now they aren’t. Lots of tension, YEARNING, world travel, and suspense. I really enjoyed this. A fun follow up to the first book. I wanted Alex and King to get their HEA. And we even get a little of Zoe and Sawyer. Arc provided by the publisher.

I read anything by Beverly Jenkins. I fricking love her. I read this one for library book club, our theme this month is spies. Faith lives and works in her father’s inn in pre revolutionary war Boston. Her awful father loves the British and hosts a General for his regular meetings. Faith uses this as an opportunity to spy and pass information to the rebels. She keeps her identity a secret, only known as Lady Midnight. One of her contacts is caught by the British and dies. That man’s son, Nick Grey, returns to Boston from his own war and conscription experience to find his father dead. He wants revenge, to find Lady Midnight, and join the rebels. There is so much flirting, it was delightful. Faith and Nick are a bit at odds at the beginning, he assumes she’s a Tory like her father. But Nick is obsessed with sassy Faith, he’s intrigued with her non stop. On Faiths side Nick is SO HANDSOME that she can barely look at his face. There’s some drama and spy stuff leading up to the Revolutionary War. Nick saves Faith after her Bad Dad kicks her out and within days they are engaged. Nick thinks Faith is gorgeous and wonderful. Such a good book!! A touch of history and it was interesting to learn about the role Black Americans played in the war, when slavery was still a big part of our country.
