-Neera is sick, and it turns out it’s because she’s not really human, and her mutation is causing her to evolve in a way not suitable for Earth’s atmosphere. She uses the Prime Mating Agency to match with Echo, who is on a planet that hopefully will be safe for her. He helps her through her change and they fall in love along the way.

[she turns out to be mutating into the other species but she changes her lungs with nanobots to stay with Echo. she’s able to get pregnant easily and unexpectedly, with unprecedented twin girls.]

-I kinda hated this book, which was a total surprise after books 1-3. It was hard to get past Neera not being human, especially since she brought almost zero human-ness to the relationship, and she was undergoing so many physical changes. After the marriage, Neera was suddenly a 12 year old child, using her pouty lips to get her way, stamping her foot and whining and screaming when she fell behind in a conversation.
I felt like the writing took a step back too–the writing and characters felt immature and weird; worldbuilding was still good. The whole book was Echo being patronizing and over-protective, though he had some sweet/caring moments, to me he filled the role of domineering teacher/parent who got to fuck the pupil = gross.
