Recs if you like Equal Rites...

books whose main characters are older and disillusioned with life and go on a little adventure that melts their hearts (and heals yours)

JK Rowling is a bigot who uses her platform to hurt transfolks and other marginalized groups (plus she literally just quoted Mein Kampf on the bird site). If you're still supporting her in 2025, don't bother talking to me.

Many of these are the beginning of series, but all of them are about academics in fantasy settings. All cross genres are welcome.

Feminism and female empowerment in fantasy and speculative fiction, inspired by the always iconic Éowyn. Only the first book in a series listed unless there’s something specific about a later book, and suggestions welcome!

Historical, mythological and just general witchy reads. Credit to @tvcr4wler for their list burn the witch! where I got some of these. Suggestions welcome.

You've found out magic is real! Great! But is it being used to create an utopia? What?! There's a crapton of red tape and politics? Oh bollocks.

fiction books with a main character or prominent side character that fits the D&D Wizard class! here for the studying ancient magical texts, the hurling fireballs left and right, the trying to seem like the wisest of your orb-pondering buds! recs and input welcome!

We've all read books about lady witches, all seen the stories of their powers rooted in the earth and emotion. I, however, prefer my women to be wizards. Scholars of the arcane, big towers, and magic rooted more in their knowledge, rather than their instincts. sighs dreamily

Please please please give me more recs 🥺🥺🥺

Halloween is cool. This book is for books with that Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, & maybe even Scream vibes. From cozy to horror, this list will hopefully have something fr everybody.

Feel free to recommend anything you think I should read/add.

Fiction books that outright tackle misogyny, or have feminist undertones. For every reader out there who's tired of being met with toxic/misogynist behaviour in stories that is presented as acceptable, or even romantic, and those who want to learn about the female perspective. (For more horrory books, see my list "Feminist Horror", for YA, see my list "Feminist YA".)

No matter the genre, here's a list of witches and the magic brought to the page (whether you love them or love to be scared of them). I tried to broaden the list to be all encompassing since I absolutely just love witchy things.

An assorted list of (mostly) cozy witchy books for the Autumn ghouls
