Butches In Literature
Another resource for those looking for butches in books.
Disclaimer: I do not necessarily recommend all of these books. Please check out my page for reviews of the ones Iβve read!

High Femme Fiction
pink, sophisticated & sometimes fatale <3 (added some essential nonfic & poetry!)

Lesbian History, Politics, Culture & Identity
β online discourse, βοΈ holistic knowledge fiction & non-fiction that will deepen your understanding of sapphism, its language/label evolution, and its intersections with bipoc, gender diversity and bisexuality. (please note βlesbianβ terminology was originally an expansive umbrella openly inclusive of fluid sapphics when many books were published, and not all identify as specifically/exclusively wlw!)

Lesbian Books That Say βLesbianβ
There is an epidemic of authors marketing their books as having lesbian characters but never actually using the word βlesbianβ in textβ or only doing so in a negative context. The following list is books that use the word in a neutral or positive context. I love being a lesbian and I love calling myself a lesbian!! Letβs celebrate this word as much as possible!! π§‘π©·π§‘π©·π§‘π©·π§‘π©·
All additions will be read and vetted by me first but recommendations are welcome in the comments!!

Butch Books That Say βButchβ
Iβve read dozens of stories with butch characters and yet it still feels like such an unexpected delight each time I see the word βbutchβ in a book. The more that younger lesbians and sapphics reject the word, the more I find myself fiercely clinging to it. I love being a butch lesbian. Butchness feels like home. Using the word honors the history and memory of the butch dykes who boldly walked this path before us.

Beloved Butchfemme: Masc x Fem Lesbian/Sapphic Rep
queer butch/femme & masc/fem fiction i adore <3 not every character on this list might identify as a woman, a βnon-manβ or a sapphic/lesbian, but all these pairings still remain closely related to lesbian/sapphic butchfemme culture.

Everybody Get More Bisexual Butchfemme Right Now!
we owe lots of great butchfemme (and derivative masc/fem) rep to bi, pan, queer & unlabeled characters, often by bi+ authors! bi, aspec & trans folks are historically essential participants of butchfemme lesbian/sapphic/queer culture. these books have plurisexual character(s), sometimes through implied attraction transcending gender rather than explicit labels; this includes intersections with gender diversity and asexual/aromantic spectrums. check out my other list on bi butches/studs/mascs!

Bisexual Books
curated list of my fave fiction that have authentic and in-depth portrayals of the bi+ experienceβoften through intersections with gender expansiveness and the aromantic/asexual spectrumsβas attraction that transcends gender, and/or the unique simultaneous embodiment of homosexuality and heterosexuality.

Alphabet Mafia
Authors who are LGBTQ ( Queer, Trans , Gender Nonconforming , etc ) that we know of because no one owes anyone anything
YA to 18+ , updating often, suggestions welcomed

Weird and Unhinged Women
All sorts of stories about all sorts of women. Mostly litfic, some horror.

Sapphic Books That Are π£οΈ Worth π the π Hype π’
weβve all read romance novels that disappoint us, as well as novels that pleasantly surprise us. this is a working list of my personal highly anticipated lesbian books that 100% made me scream, cry, kick my feet, etc exactly as expected. β‘

Bi, Pan & Queer Authors Who Write Sapphic
your fave iconic lesbian books were written by bi+ authors!!!
mostly to oppose the erasure of essential bisexual participation in lesbian literature and misinformation that bi+ women broadly prefer mlm to wlw. most of these authors have several sapphic books so make sure to check out the rest! many are also nonbinary, trans and/or on the aro/ace spectrums so please be mindful of their pronouns, labels (or lack thereof) and gender identities. suggestions welcomed!

The Theme Is Art
A gallery of books selected on covers that belong in a museum. Most of these are from actual paintings. Different types of art selected. The books listed below are just my opinion. Recommendations are welcome
