The books in this offshoot of the Copper Ridge series are significantly shorter than the books in the main part of the series. So although I enjoyed this book immensely, it didn’t quite have the depth of the other stories. Now, this is the first book in this part of the series so I can’t really speak for the depth of the other books yet. I just know the page count is lower.
In this story, there are not a lot of characters in the periphery. Other than Anna and Chase, the heroine and hero, we don’t see much of anyone other than Chase’s brother. And even Sam’s interactions with the couple are limited. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but since I am a fan of the Copper Ridge series I kind of missed everyone. (We see Ace for a very quick second, but that’s all.)
This could have easily ended up an unsatisfying read. Chase and Anna have been best friends for years. He’s a man-whore and she’s practically a virgin. Although Anna’s forced herself to never have a physical attraction to Chase she’s always known it’s there simmering under the surface. Chase doesn’t seem to view Anna as anything other than a good buddy. See what I mean here? I was all set for Anna to be pining for Chase and Chase being oblivious to the fact that she’s attractive. Thankfully, although it kind of starts off that way, this story didn’t progress in that old tired way I feared.
