A silver-haired equestrienne and a charismatic artist turn a scandalous bargain into a vibrant portrait of love. Stella Hobhouse is a brilliant rider, stalwart friend, skilled sketch artist—and completely overlooked. Her outmodish gray hair makes her invisible to London society. Combined with her brother’s pious restrictions and her dwindling inheritance, Stella is on the verge of a lifetime marooned in Derbyshire as a spinster. Unless she does something drastic…like posing for a daring new style of portrait by the only man who’s ever really seen her. Aspiring painter Edward “Teddy” Hayes knows true beauty when he sees it. He would never ask Stella to risk her reputation as an artist’s model but in the five years since a virulent bout of scarlet fever left him partially paralyzed, Teddy has learned to heed good fortune when he finds it. He’ll do anything to persuade his muse to pose for him, even if he must offer her a marriage of convenience. After all, though Teddy has yearned to trace Stella’s luminous beauty on canvas since their chance meeting, her heart is what he truly aches to capture….

“He met her eyes as she leaned over him. For the second time that day, the two of them grinned at each other like children. And he realized that he wasn’t just in love with Stella Hobhouse—his model, his muse, his shining star. He loved her.” —Edward "Teddy" Hayes “There was no one but Teddy, filling her vision and filling her heart. And suddenly, she knew. She just knew. The realization struck her, less like a thunderbolt and more like a minor earthquake of the soul. She loves him.” —Stella Hobhouse greening shrieking fuming raging weeping sobbing wheezing screaming throwing up Even if this wasn't the ideal approach to wrap out the series, I still accept it. There seemed to be a lot of concerns in this book that I simply didn't resonate with. The romance was lacking, the pace was severely, and the execution was muddled. But I do still enjoy this book same as the prior three. To begin with, Stella was a strong female lead. She was stuck in a terrible place with no possibilities and an ass brother who often silenced her and made fun of her simply because she was a younger sister. I'll fuming raging seething throwing tantrum for him for Stella. The fact that she maintained her spirit and as optimistic a view of her life as possible, however, is what impresses me. Teddy, however, is not intriguing to me as much as the other three male leads did. I don't believe that his obsession (in painting her) with her ever really developed into true love because it felt so horrible. In spite of everything, I was quite relieved when they realized that they were intended to be there for each other. To Stella, who was adamant in telling him that she was her wife and not her nurse. And to Teddy for deciding to stop excluding her after he finally came to terms with his own vulnerability. Especially since Teddy was the one who had defended Stella and had to encourage her not to be upset. Which lead us into his sensational quote. “Be loud. Be opinionated. Be as much yourself as you wish—and then some. Once we’re wed, you and I will answer to no one but each other.” —Edward "Teddy" Hayes Additionally, I wanted to highlight the Horsewomen's friendship thus far. How their friendship grew and thrived, becoming even stronger than before, is what I cherished, admired, and adored most about this series. They supported one another through everything and always had one other's backs. Particularly at the end, when they had finally found acceptance, companionship, and the courage to follow their hearts. They had happy homes of their own now, deeply fulfilling lives, and wonderful husbands who unconditionally adored them which filled my heart with joy and almost made it overflow. I also wanted to acknowledge Stewart Crank and Zara Hampton-Brown for narrating the book. I adore how well they were able to give the characters a sense of life. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this series. This novel is well-written, unique, and interesting, and I believe it will appeal to many readers. Given the reset Mimi Matthews has put into writing these masterpieces, I think most readers will enjoy this book because it is original, captivating, and insightful. I found the relationships between each couple to be fascinating. The concepts of the found family that are present in this interconnected series are lovely either. You should read this series if you want a slow-burning, bittersweet Victorian romance with swoon-worthy banter between each couple! I will strongly recommend reading this series if you're looking for a slow-burning, heartbreaking Victorian romance with swoon-worthy banter between each couple!! 🐎💚💙❤️💜
