A librarian's favorite response to asking what book a patron is looking for...

Here's every book so far from BOTM's monthly shortlist since February 2015 for anyone who wants to read them all like I do!

There's a lot to be said about your 20s, but life afterwards is just as sweet! Here is a list of books where the FMC is age 30+ so you can enjoy a little more maturity and a totally different POV on life. This one is dedicated to my fellow millennials 🫶 I'll update as I continue to read. Please share any suggestions you have for our friends in the comments.

books that were better on audio

basically every memoir is also going to be better on audio, especially if the author narrates it, but I have a separate list for those

books from all US states and territories. asking for recommendations! these books must a) be written by an author with a strong connection to the state or territory and b) take place largely in the state or territory. i want to try to prioritize, whenever possible, underrepresented voices / voices that america’s regime tries to silence.

please lmk if any of these authors or texts aren’t good representation.

sunny settings, or books that feel sunny and offer escapism from the winter blues in an eclectic blend of genres.

Editing to add: okay some of these books are SAD, my dudes, just like my seasonal affective disorder. But at the same time, they are soft and kind and a safe place for the big sad, if that makes sense?

Books that deal with political and social themes through the eyes of a morally questionable main character (for context, my reason for making this list is to find more books with MCs as unbearable as Sciona from Blood over Bright Haven 💔ྀིྀི)

Perfect summer reads

Helen Laser was one of the audiobook narrators that truly made me fall in love with audiobooks, her narration of Yellowface was fantastic and honestly one of the first times I got audiobooks

I honestly don‘t know how to describe her voice except that it scratches that itch in my brain
