#1 New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey is back with an all-new enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating sports romance about a playboy hockey rookie and the disciplined softball pitcher completely immune to his charms. Boston Bearcats rookie Robbie Corrigan is living the dream. He’s made it to the NHL, his best friend/teammate and fellow “orgasm donor” is his roomie—and the women of Boston love them both. Life is sweet. That is, until he meets Skylar Paige, division 1 softball pitcher, girl least likely to take anyone’s bull…and the one member of the opposite sex immune to his charms. Robbie might be dazzled by the badass pitcher, but Skylar pegs him as a filthy player and wants nothing to do with him. When he discovers she’s carrying a serious torch for her brother’s best friend, Robbie knows he should just go back to clubbing and whipped cream bikini parties, but he can’t seem to leave Skylar to flounder on her romantic quest to land another man. Nor can he miss out on the opportunity to spend time with her and hopefully redeem himself. Before Robbie knows it, he’s agreed to be Skylar’s fake boyfriend/love coach at an upcoming family wilderness competition where her crush will be in attendance. What could go wrong? Through a series of contests that require them to trust each other, Robbie and Skylar grow closer and closer until their fake relationship starts to feel like the realest thing they’ve ever known and the sizzling lessons in sensuality burn out of control. But it’s all just pretend…right?

I picked this book up at the right time. I laughed so hard and I really needed it. This is my favorite so far out of the Big Shots series. Robbie and Skylar were a match made in enemies to friends to lovers instalove heaven. If you don’t immediately remember Robbie from books 1-3, he’s one half of the Orgasm Donor twin rookies. He doesn’t stop being ridiculous, but his character fleshes out into hidden depths as the story moves forward. Skylar is Elton’s little sister (the baseball guy that made a move on Chloe) and a D1 softball player for Boston University. I loved Robbie’s heart and lack of cynicism. He’s not an angsty, brooding hero. He’s the human personification of an excited squeal. He fanboys over his hockey heroes, has a really gross love of Stouffer’s Lasagna, and is hardcore loyal. When he falls in love, he’s all in- and he’ll take any in he can get. Even if it means pretending to be his new crush’s date to a family event to help her make another guy jealous. He actually reminds me a little of Deadpool- with the crack hilarity, internal narrative, and the intensity of his goal chasing lol. Skylar is a badass bitch. Her first words to Robbie are, “Fuck you.” (To his delight.) She’s been playing with the boys all her life and grew up in a hella competitive family. She doesn’t take any shit. So when this tool who was openly bragging about the night before’s conquests starts to hit on her- she’s not having any of it. And omg, the way she shuts him out! I was cracking up so hard. (“Cannibalism,” will absolutely be my next way to shut down a badly aimed, “So what are you into?” in the future.) In the middle of a coffee/OJ date with Robbie to make good on a bet she lost, Skylar learns that her partner for her family’s yearly version of the Strong Man competition can’t make it. The only solution? To take home this near stranger and let him pretend to be her boyfriend. Totally sane, right? It doesn’t matter. Read it anyways. You’ll laugh a lot and have to fan yourself more than a couple of times. 🔥🔥🔥🧯
Love, love, LOVE the newest entry in the Big Shots series. It has all the things you expect from a Tessa Bailey book - dirty talk, banter, a borderline unhinged storyline, and a cast of characters I would love to spend time with.
So what's holding back that last star? Two big things:
1. Her books generally feature an older guy, and the MMC in this one is in his early 20's. She didn't handle that particularly well. Somehow, he was given both too much and not enough credit as a human being, let alone a love interest. We ended in a great spot, but there were parts of the journey that were rough.
2. The next book's setup was so ham-fisted. It was laughable. I absolutely 1000% do not care about them, and forcing them in front of me can't make me care. There are already SO MANY side characters in this series - either give me one of them or give me enough of a personality for me to give a sh*t about the new guy. Neither wasn't a good call.
