Bring on those Gen Y memories! A list of books likely to give people born between 1981 and 1996 a lot of feelings.

This list is for those of us who grew up eagerly awaiting the Scholastic Book Fair, watching Reading Rainbow (or Wishbone!), and dreaming of a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

Note: these are not books published in 1981-1996, but books that had a hold on the millennial generation.

it’s vaguely the 2010’s. the walls are painted a garish shade of purple, littlest pet shop pets line the walls, and everything smells like a jolly watermelon smencil.

these are the books that I remember from a childhood spent reading voraciously. the nostalgia is baked in.

Books from Chapter 8 from Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix. This chapter focuses on slasher type horror and serial killer horror. In the 70s and 80s serial killers found their way into the popular zeitgeist and news for the first time. As Hendrix notes of the panic that ensued, “… and in a flash the scariest motive for murder was no motive at all.” (205, Paperbacks from Hell by Grady Hendrix). After all, nothing is scarier than a killer who kills just for the thrill.
