I had to stop at page 236 😭 It was getting too cringey and I couldn't imagine finishing the rest of the book, let alone the rest of the series. I'm shocked this is considered new adult, as it reads like YA (imo). It’s reminding me a lot of an otome game/anime, where you have one very plain MFC and like 5+ male characters who fit different tropes, all falling for her simply because she's the main character. Not to say I think all the men in this book are in love with her, but that's kind of the vibe it's giving. And, I really hate to say this because I think there were some great original ideas here, it was starting to feel very Pokémon-esque. Which isn't bad, but on top of all the other reasons I'm dropping the book, it was hard to take it seriously once I imagined it as a variant of a kid’s TV show.
Not sure how I feel about this one yet. Writing isn’t bad and the plot is really interesting, but I feel like the characters are getting too close way too quickly. It’s also giving “she’s so clever and unique and mysterious” when the MFC is pretty one dimensional, at least at this stage. So who knows! Hoping I enjoy it since I already have all 3 books 🤞🏻
