MF Romances with Bi Main Characters

I love reading romances between men and women where one or both of the characters are bi because it shows the potential of bi people to fall in love with any gender, if that makes sense. So often bi people in “straight” relationships don’t get clocked as LGBTQ+ and I like seeing how they make a “straight” relationship queer. I’m always on the hunt for more.

These lean slightly more fantasy than romantasy but Starling House and The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow both feature a bi MC! The Everlasting in particular has a FMC who has an interesting relationship with her gender imo and both characters play a bit with gender roles.

oooh thank you! with all the buzz around the everlasting, i can’t believe i didn’t hear about the bi MC!

This list is great, a few books I've read where one or both of the mcs are bi are A Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft, Where the Dark Stands Still by A.B. Poranek, a Tower of Half-Truths by N. J. Prynne, Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis, and Behooved by M. Stevenson.

oooh this is moving some of these up the TBR and adding new ones to the TBR

2

I hope you enjoy them!

This makes me so happy! Thank you! May i also suggest This Fatal Kiss and also All Woven with Ivy? I’ll let you know if I think of others !

3

thank you!!!! i’ll add them. to both the list and my tbr lol

1

Thank you for this list! I’m always on the look out for books with these types of characters but find them difficult to find. 😊

3

ofc! it’s one of my favorite tropes!

2

Yes! And I wish there was more representation of it. 😊

3

absolutely! i think it’s becoming more common though

At the mo I’m reading Pucking Wild by Emily Rath. The FMC is openly & confidently Bi. And she is definitely “Queering” the straight passing relationship.

3

oooh interesting! i’ll have to add it to my TBR!

Cool. The first in the series, Pucking Arohnd, also has a Queer with mixed gendered relationship. However, it doesn’t technically fit the definition of this list cause it’s a Polyam relationship instead of a traditional couple. It’s a MMFM. The men are Queer but not the FMC.

1

yes, i’ve heard of it! mostly in poly romance discussions (which i also love)

2

Cool that you’ve heard of it. I’m also into Poly romance stories. I like the characters in this one.

2

i’ll defintely have to check it out then!

One of the guys is totally ADHD. He brings the chaos & the funny. Hope you enjoy! 😊

I’ve no idea where to start with this list, although I’m really interested being bi in a straight presenting relationship for over 25 years now 😀. I usually read literary fiction, or YA, and sometimes fantasy (bu I haven’t read any romantasy as this doesn’t really speak to me). I usually don’t like romance as a genre, as in ‘feel good romance beach read books’. Any suggestions on what I should read?

2

wow! i’m honored that you’re interested in this list even if it’s outside your wheelhouse. check & mate is a YA romance and there’s some family drama along the way. so it grows is an adult romance but personal growth outside the romance is important to the story. you, again is another adult romance with some messy characters so it’s less feel good and more two hurt people learning to love each other. if you want to dip your toes into fantasy romance, the everlasting has a very literary style. it’s kind of written in the second person. it’s defintely one i would recommend if someone likes a more ornate prose style. also fantasy romance, but it has a more sparse prose, his secret illuminations has religious trauma as a major theme, which may or may not resonate with you. this one is single POV from the man’s perspective, which i had never read before in a romance novel.

2

i suggest Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis because the witch queen is bi!

2

oh thank you!

2

I’d recommend ‘You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty’ by Akwaeke Emezi, the author is also non-binary and explores queer friendships and relationships in all their books!

1

cool! thanks for the suggestion! i’ve added it to the list :)
