In the small village of Rakkas on each summer solstice, women go missing in the night. For years the village has watched their own vanish. Always women. Always gone without a trace. They have prayed, offered, begged, but their shrines are empty and amid a country ravaged by illness and Inquisition; they are on their own. From Lauds to Compline, three villagers approach the evening with their own hopes, dreams-and secrets. It will be up to fate if they're to make it through to the next dawn. Addella witnesses a terrible crime, Father Matthias receives an unholy confession, and Sistine knows she must flee this terrible fate. By sunrise nothing will be as it was.
