the irreverent sarcasm and/or satire runs deep
books w sense of humor (or voice) that's A) so subtle and cleverly disguised you could blink and miss it B) so blatant it's like being hit over the head C) so outrageous it's honestly just absurd D) drier than the sahara desert E) rather tongue-in-cheek F) all (or at least more than one) of the above
(some are more obvious than others since some are clearly intended to be satirical and others were just written in such a dry voice it made me chortle)

I love reading a cosy murder with my 11 year old son. We've loved both 'The Swifts' books and my son really enjoyed the humour in 'Murder by Narwhal!'. We're currently reading 'Murder at the Museum'. We're desperate for more - so if you have recommendations, please add them.

middle grade adventures! recs welcome :)
there’s a special place in my heart for middle grade novels. i think they have the hardest audience—they’re written for a group defined by transition, bridging the gap between childhood and adolescence by creating space in the in-between. when done well, their universal themes (like change!) and prose make the books translatable to any age. since it feels like that should be impossible, i’m convinced authors of this age group are geniuses.
