This was… unnecessary. However, I think this side of the story is far more interesting than the Bella side of the story. Even if Edward is a very weird, and honestly a bit toxic character, he has something that makes him more appealing than Bella, to summarize, he is less boring than she.
The one good thing about this book: The relationship between Edward and Alice.
This one is definitely not a must read, but it’s not bad. It’s just way to long.

This is one of the funniest books I've read.
this was the longest book i ever read in every sense. the inner monologue was so repetitive and made me so bored.
i am BEGGING stephenie meyer to write the rest of the twilight saga from edward’s perspective. this dude is such a disaster, i swear. he’s constantly simultaneously horny and murderous on main but his angsting is pretty hilarious to read.
honestly, returning to the world of twilight is a lot like
coming home. this series was the first proper YA series i read when i was in my early teens and even until now, despite the criticism it receives, it’s still one of my favourites. yes, bella is a special snowflake. yes, there is a love triangle. and yes, vampires. but there are worse books out there. (trust me, i have an entire shelf called “actually worse than twilight”).
i like how in midnight sun, through edward’s view, we see a bit more of bella than what we saw in the previous books. for example, take the q&a session he has with her. in twilight, it’s glossed over. but in midnight sun, because edward is endearingly, infuriatingly obsessed with bella, we get to have the full scene. and i think that missing scene really gives perspective to bella’s character. her replies are startlingly mature and i could See what edward saw in her. of course, credit to the writing - stephenie’s writing has definitely improved since twilight as well.
when reading this, i just realised how much we didn’t get to see due to twilight being from bella’s point of view. the cullen family is fleshed out as characters in their own right - the little scene with edward and rosalie???? BLESS. also, the part where edward, carlisle and emmett are tracking james was written quite well, imo. i love that although it’s still edward and bella’s story, there are enough new bits to make it a better complement to twilight.
now, if only stephenie would give us edward’s point of view for breaking dawn. i would pay good money to FINALLY read his reaction to jacob imprinting on his newborn daughter.
Loved reading Twilight from Edward's POV. I remember reading some of the draft in 2008 on the family desktop so it was exciting to read the full book in 2021.
TBH, Edward is annoying but I like his first reactions to Bella. My favorite part was the Cullen/James tracking scene.
This took me an embarrassingly long time to read, but not necessarily due to the book.

4.5 stars!! edward is still annoying! he’s so whiny. i still love the action and enjoy history of the cullens!
Loved Loved Loved this, i hope she keeps writing this. I want to find out more about Edward and his family. The cullens are funny and intresting. Edwards perspective would be amazing.
“What if I’m not the superhero? What if I’m the bad guy?” If only he knew he becomes his own hero.
Because this series led me to become the avid, book-loving person I am, I feel the necessity to really speak on how much I loved this.
Twilight is obviously not the A+ writing many of us believed it to be 10-15 years ago. Yet for Stephenie Meyer to rewrite the same story from another perspective that felt like it’s own individual story, I’m overwhelmed with nostalgia and joy at being able to experience this story differently all over again. How many of us have wished to reread a book for the first time? Here it is. But with grace, growth, and an author’s adoration for her own story.
The writing, the character development, the depth into reimagining this silly story has only shown Meyer’s growth and heart as a writer and an author. Is she by far the best? No. God no. Is Twilight the groundbreaking, romanticized classic story? Hell no. Are there still many problematic elements about the entire Twilight Saga that should be and are constructively acknowledged and discussed? Fucking absolutely. It would be disrespectful and a disservice to the present and future authors with much more relevant, exceptional, better stories published, or soon to be. Neither are needed for someone to enjoy this story. If this was how Twilight was originally written, I would have fell in love with this story and reading as hard as I did the first time.
I’m proud of Meyer’s growth, though the YA industry has rightfully raised the bar and I’m blessed to have read and experienced that growth since reading - and falling in love with - Twilight 10 years ago.
P.S. I would reread the entire series again if she did this for each book and I feel no shame. I would be that B in a heartbeat.

Half way through the book I switched to Avengers fan fiction. Sooooo much better. I don't need Edward's whining in my life right now.
