Mariel, a newly blooded captain of the Merry Men, is desperate to live up to the legacy of her grandfather, the legendary Robin Hood. Clem, a backwoods assistant healer known for her new-fangled cures, just wants to help people. When Mariel's ramshackle band kidnap Clem as retribution for her guardian helping the Sheriff of Nottingham, all seems to be going (sort of) to plan … until Jack Hartley, Mariel's father and Commander of the Merry Men, is captured in a deadly ambush. Determined to prove herself, Mariel sets out to get him back – with her annoyingly cheerful kidnappee in tow. But the wood is at war. Many believe the Merry Men are no longer on the right side of history. Watching Clem tend the party's wounds, Mariel begins to doubt the cause to which she has devoted her life. As the two of them grow closer, one thing is clear. They must prepare to fight for their lives – and for the lives of everybody in the greenwood.

This was an absolute delight to read, Lex doesn't miss again! The comedy, the laid-back-ness, the serious topics handled so well and intergrated perfectly with the other themes and emotions, it's all just so well done. Not too much plot, but if you liked Gwen and Art and the vibes of that, you'll like this one too.

The characters are the main parts of this book, with not too much plot going on. They where absolutely loveable, a fantastic cast to follow around! Clem was so head-strong and confident, Mariel was a perfect contrast to her being shyer and less confident. The rest of the gang were also pretty awesome, each different enough that you could mostly remember them all (there are quite a few characters).

The plot is mostly kinda, uh, daddy issues lol. Daddy issues, PTSD and frolicking in the woods. As with Gwen and Art, a very similar structure exists here where a lot of the plot is within the climax - but it is spread out a bit more throughout in this one which was nice. More context was given and more world building given too.

Robin Hood aspect was done suprisingly well as well, a lot was added to that world and built off of and it fit in absolutely perfectly into that mythology imo!
