Recs if you like The City in Glass...

every struggled to find actual lesbian/sapphic books when at the library or bookstore? so did I!

bc of said struggle, I started to curate a personal list of books that either has lesbian MCs and/or featured a primary sapphic romance.

i haven't read all of these, but I do try my diligence in confirming that they meet the above perimeters, since many books claim to be sapphic when they're not. this is an ever updating list, only fiction for now!

Dive into these science fiction books that are shorter than 300 pages!

As always, open to any suggestions for additions to this list! 🙂

Some books I either love or am super excited to read that are queer, BIPOC, and have some kind of speculative element (fantasy, sci fi, paranormal, etc)

less of the usual culprits if you please!

Short-ish (& sometimes spicy) standalone speculative stories.

Every single Aardvark Book Club book pick since its inception. Updated monthly!

Books that have been shortlisted for the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction. I compiled this list because the criteria (and Le Guin's works) resonate with me:

"The Prize will be given to a writer whose work reflects the concepts and ideas that were central to Ursula’s own work, including but not limited to: hope, equity, and freedom; non-violence and alternatives to conflict; and a holistic view of humanity’s place in the natural world."

Why deal with heterosexuality when you don't have to?

This is a collection of queer books written by bipoc authors that fall into the genre of fantasy and/or sci-fi (supernatural horror is also included)

(If a book is part of a series I only put the first book because otherwise it gets messy very quickly)

Recommendations are always welcome!!!

Sometimes you're just not ready to commit to a series

A list to compile mythic fantasy—fantasy with a focus on, or inspiration by, mythology, folklore, and legends. A blend of more modern storytelling that still has the emotional weight, lyrical prose, and an ancient feeling.

criteria: gay, armed

Books that are just as good as the cover promises. AKA: Fantastic book covers that also happen to be fantastic books! List will be added to in the future because I can’t leave well enough alone. (Suggestions welcome, leave it in the comments.)

Nominees for the Ursula K Le Guin Prize for for Fiction, awarded since 2022 for imaginative fiction. (Mostly I have made this because they're always really great picks and I want to work my way through all of them.)

we're talking less than 250 pages

Something happened, and now you will never be the same. A list of books focusing on characters having to rebuild their entire lives, and the kind of hope that feels like an open wound. Recommendations are welcome!

A list of books that have been considered for and/or won the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction. From the official website - "This award is intended to recognize those writers Ursula spoke of in her 2014 National Book Awards speech—realists of a larger reality, who can imagine real grounds for hope and see alternatives to how we live now."

Based on a call-out I made when it was feeling like there was little to feel good about in the future, if you ever get stuck there too I hope one of these helps
