Recs if you like Midnight Robber...

SFF with worldbuilding that informs the plot, prose, characters, and underlying narrative in deeply meaningful, intentional, and complex ways, so much so that changing the world means changing the shape of the story itself. Or: worldbuilding that goes beyond simple set dressing and becomes a vehicle for the story and narrative. Always open to recs and suggestions! ❤️

Need a gift for your extremist family member, but they already have a red baseball cap AND a Don't Tread on Me shirt? Were you told "Don't bring up politics at family dinner" and need some safe books to discuss instead? Well we have a full menu for you to choose from! Each just for fun book comes with our guarantee: No real world political messages under the 100% fictional plot! 😉 (Taking Recommendations!)

I couldnt find a list of these yet, so i made one! You may not be able to collect the badges anymore, but if you’re a completionist like me; here are all the books of the pagebound seasonal readalongs and the special event readalongs!

Books that illustrate some aspect of the immigrant experience - in fantasy, or in the real world; in childhood, or in old age; in history, or in the modern day. (work in progress - recs welcome!)

sci-fi visions of BIPOC cultures on other planets or in space. recommendations always welcome!

tangled narratives and re-formed genres sprouting from the toxic ground of colonialism

bildungsroman if ya nasty

My favourite books or from my TBR by BIPOC authors in a range of different genres (though I primarily read fantasy and romance) (only first book for a series added, unless not directly linked)

Fantasy, Romantasy, Science Fiction, and Speculative Fiction books written by authors of the diaspora

Books with sun, moon, stars, or a time of day in the title.

Retellings and reimaginings of stories and influences from various mythos and pantheons (only putting the first book in each series)

Told from the pov of characters whose outlook on the situation doesn't always reflect reality. Largely skewed by their perception of themselves, these narrators can be misleading, under-representative of the situation at hand (and their role in it), and often brimming with personality! Suggestions are always welcome!

Speculative fiction exploring identity, personal power, and the stories we tell, where characters shape themselves as much as their worlds.

Books that fucked me up in a realm of different ways, ranging from crying my eyes out to raging at the world to re-evaluating my entire existence.
